Intemprate Ramblings of a Dangerous Mind

The following is based on actual events. Only the names, locations and events have been changed.

Well it's the end of the year, time for the year end ramblings. My apologies to the Sports Guy for basically stealing his format but he is the best sports writer around so consider this a recurring homage. Also, Jenny is cooking lunch so this could be my last posting for a while. Keep your fingers crossed. On to the ramblings, 2005 year end edition.

-Was there any better news this year than the announcement of the CHiPs movie with Fez playing the role of Ponch? Anything? Didn't think so.

-If the Pistons aren't careful they are going to get me intrested in pro basketball again. I haven't enjoyed basketball this much since the height of the MJ era. Even then it was due to one person, the Pistons may be the greatest team I've ever seen play.

-Speaking of basketball, Kobe Bryant is a bitch. That cheapshot on Brad Miller showed his true colors yet again, then he whined like a little girl when he got punted for 2 games. Someone needs to go Segal on his ass and rip out his adams apple. I would pay money for that.

-On the subject of bitches, Joe Horn may be leading the charge of the bitch-men. He's pissed that the people of New Orleans didn't come out to the first few games of the year? Earth to Joe, it's hard to make it to a game when you are busy shoveling mud from your living room and shooting at looters. Joe Horn, if you were a man I would punch you, I would punch you in the mouth.

-Lost is back next week. About freaking time too. I'm getting the shakes. I feel like Hurley did when he had to watch the food. You know he molested a twinkie or two when the let everyone at the food stores.

-Sweet Lincoln's mullet! It's official, Anchorman is the best movie of the year. Yes it came out last year but I didn't see it until spring so I'm including it in my list for this year. Yes I can do that. Now if you don't mind, I've got to pick up a new batch of Sex Panther by Odeon. It has bits of real panther in it.

-And just because I know you want it, here is the rest of my top five moveis for 2005, in no particular order: Chronicles of Narnia, Revenge of the Sith, Batman Begins, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

-In case you missed it,this is The Greatest Rap Track of All Time True Dat, no Double True!

-G4 TV may be one of the most useless channels on cable but they are getting better. X-play actually makes me laugh and chortle from time to time and they just signed up to show TNG reruns. Maybe, just maybe my dream of watchable, dorks only station will come to fruition. Great Odin's Raven, I hope so.

-Steve Spurrier is the illegitemate, semi-retarded spawn of Satan. Nothing gives me greater pleasure than watching him lose.

-By the beard of Zeus, if the Falcons win this weekend they will for the first time in the history of the franchise, have consecutive winning seasons. Of course, I did not really type that and no one is thinking about it either lest they find a way to screw it up again. They are the Falcons after all.

-Quick political aside: George W. Bush leaves much to be desired as a president. But that being said, with the threat of terrorism being on our doorstep I am glad we have someone in the Oval Office willing to take a stand. I'm not sure we would have gotten that with any of the other choices. Unfortunately, he also spends money like a drunk sailer on shore leave in Las Vegas. Damn politics suck!

-And last but not least, 35 days until pitchers and catchers report!

I'm sorry Champ, I ate your chocolate Squirrel.

Kung Fu Christmas and Other Assorted Stories

So everyone just left from the annual Christmas Bash and I feel like rehashing the weekend. The saying goes "Don't sweat the small stuff" but I wholeheartedly disagree. This weekend was filled with the small stuff and when added together the small stuff is much more significant to the makeup of our lives. Anyway, here's the recap:

Thursday - After a half day at work, Jenny, Rachel, John and I crammed into the car and drove 13.5 hours, arriving at the grandparents house at 3:00 am. Rach amazed me with her ability to drive for such a long amount of time, a feat necessitated by the short pedals in the car and my inability to fit in the drivers side. The highlight as usual is the obligatory stop at the Waffle House. There is something about exceedingly greasy hashbrowns and crappy coffee that makes traveling fun.

Friday - We awoke at 6:30 am (that's right, less than 3 hours sleep) to make it the rest of the way to Atlanta by 10:00 for the first service for Gramma. Friday was tough, mainly because it was the second time I had to see my mother cry at the loss of a parent. I realized that I had been blocking out my own feelings on Gramma's passing by diving into work and trip preparations. It all came out though at the memorial service. I had what I wanted to say all planned out but when I actually had to get up and say them I turned into a blubbering mess. As noted before, it was the small stuff I remember and cherish most. The evening was filled with celebration as the family got together and reminisced and caught up on each others lives. The highlight would definitely be this picture that my aunt found while going through Gramma's things. I can only hope to be the kind of man my Papa was and have the love of his grandkids like he did.

Saturday - More driving. We left Atlanta at 5:00 am and drove straight through again. That's 1600+ miles, 27+ hours in a 55 hour period. Of course, when Rachel sat on John's milkshake, that was pretty much the highlight of the day.

Sunday - Christmas at Jenny's parents. I loved watching the nephew open his smorgasbord of presents. Unfortunately I was still pretty much out of it from all the traveling.

Monday - Up at 7:30 to start cooking for the Christmas Bash. I pretty much cooked all day. Of course it was all worth it when everyone showed up. I absolutely love cooking for people! It was great to get together with old friends, make a couple of new friends and just have a good time. I haven't seen some of these guys in up to five years but we basically picked up right where we left off. It's great how God keeps the right people around to be a part of your life when you need them.

Yes, that is Andy Gibb, and yes, his magnificence didst blind mine camera.

For Gramma

Do you remember the fun we had? The good times and the bad?
The laughs, the cries, the ups and the downs

Do you remember painted rocks, coke cans on the side of the road?
Shepherds and angels, dressed in bathrobes and towels

Do you remember road trips to Forsyth?
Granparents and grandkids around the pool with the slide

Do remember Hank and Dale, Bobby and Leo, Smoltzie and Chipper?
Skip and Pete at 7:35 on TBS

Do you remember the garden? Tomatoes and beans
Prepared just right for the Sunday meal

Do you remember the yard? Trees for climbing in the front
Crabapples for throwing at Paul in the back

Do you remember the living room? Families gathered for meals and holidays
"We've Only Just Begun" on the piano shaped music box

Do you remember ice cream churning in the July heat under the carport?
Fireflies, lighting up the summer nights

Do you remember peanuts in the closet and peach cobbler in oven?
Grandkids scrambling underfoot

Do you remember the Shiffarobe?

We remember.

Say Hi to Papa for us.

Lazy Weekend

Yep, it's pretty much been one of those days.
